Abstract

Glibenclamide is an antidiabetic oral that is used to treat Non-Insulin
Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (NIDDM). Generic type of glibenclamide is
considered low quality drug due to its low price. This research aims to compare
dissolution profile of branded glibenclamide tablet and generic types (A and B).
Each drug was assessed based on its physical qualities and dissolution profile.
Each from tablets brand and generic taked as samples for tablets brand and two
samples for tablets generic from circulated market. Used glibenclamide tablets
with 5 mg doses. It used to research of physical characteristic tablet and
dissolution test. Dissolution test of glibenclamide tablets brand and generic was
performed in 900 ml liquid dissolution medium of buffer phosphate pH 6,8 and
used dissolution insrument type two with 100 rpm. Based on research of physical
characteristics such as uniformity of weight, tablets hardness and disintegration
test get that all of physical characteristics glibenclamide brand and generic
tablets full fill in prescript qualify, comparative test results between generic A
brand glibenclmide tablets showed dissolution profiles similar to f1 =7 and f2=57
values because the f1values were less than 15 and more than 50 while the generic
B showed different dissolution profiles with f1 value =47 and f2 =21, because the
value of f1 is more than 15 and f2 is less than 50.
