Abstract

Teeth whitening or bleaching is a procedure to whiten teeth that change color like an original
color of the tooth with a chemical repair process with the aim of restoring the aesthetics of
one's teeth. The negative impact of chemicals on the teeth whitening cause of the decrease in
the value of enamel surface hardness, gingival irritation, sensitive teeth. From the negative
impacts obtained, natural ingredients are developed as teeth whitening. The purpose of his
research is to determine of tomato ethanol extract will be made gel preparations and determine
the activity of tomato ethanol extract on tooth discoloration. The type of research is laboratory
experimental research with in vitro testing using cow teeth. Cow teeth soaked using a coffee
solution for 3 days then carried out measurements using the Shade guide VitapanĀ® Classical.
Samples were grouped into 4 treatment groups. Group 1 of tomato ethanol extract gel get 3
times a day for 5 minutes, group 2 tomato ethanol extract gel once a day for 8 hours, group 5
positive control of hydrogen peroxide 3 times a day for 5 minutes, group 6 positive control of
hydrogen peroxide once a day for 8 hours. Color measurements are on the 3rd, 6th, 9th, and
12th days. The Wilcoxon test indicated significant differences in each group (p<0.05). In the
Kruskal Wallis test indicated the gel extract ethanol of tomato 1% with positive control have
the same efficacy (p> 0.05).
