Abstract
The research is entitled "Meaning Shin of English Loanwords on Indonesian Language in Kompas Newspaper found in rubric ofPendldikan dan Kebudayaan in Edition of May to June 2017"; it aims to describe types of meaning shift and causative factors of the meaning shift of English loanwords on Indonesian language found in Kompas newspaper on rubric ofPendidikan dan Kebudayaan in edition of May to June 2017. The research data are English loanwords on Indonesian language on the newspaper containing types of meaning shift and its causative factors. Kompas newspaper edition 1st of May until 30th of June, 2017 are used for data source. Research method used is descriptive qualitative; stages of research are 1) data provision, 2) data analysis, and 3) presentation of analysis result. The results shows that there are 5 types of meaning shifts. The data can be specified as follows (1) 32 extends shift meaning (generalization), (2) 6 narrowed meaning shift (specialization), (3) 18 total meaning shift, (4) 7 elevation (amelioration), (5) 14 metonymy. There are 4 causative factors of meaning shift. In detail, the data are as follow: (1) 20 developments in science and technology (2) 21 social and cultural factors (3) 2 psychological factors, (4) 36 foreign language influences.
