Abstract

This research is entitled The Rhetorical Study on Najwa Shihab's Questions in Mata Najwa Talk Show, The Exclusive Final Chapter of Jakarta Governor Election at Metro TV. This study aims to describe techniques for initiating dialog of Najwa Shihab, types of questions used by Najwa Shihab, as well as function of questions based on types of found questions. Data of this descriptive qualitative research are in form of dialogue of Najwa Shihab with her guests containing questions. The data source comes from Najwa Shihab dialogue with her guests in Mata Najwa talk show on Metro TV as many as 7 episodes. There are 3 stages of research method, namely data provision, data analysis and data presentation. The data provision uses scrutinize method with advanced technique named Uninvolved Conversation Observation Technique, recording technique and writing technique. Data are analyzed by pragmatic matching method and referential method with basic and advanced technique. The basic technique is determinant sorting, while the advanced one is correlation of the equalizing technique. Based on the analysis, the dialogue used by Najwa Shibab in initiating dialogue in Mata Najwa talk show involves: (I) informative questions, (2) questions to activate), (3) questions to control, (4) questions to trap, (5)) socarates question. (6) questions to open a new problem, (9) questions to close the discussion, (10) provocative questions, (II) irrigating questions, (12) offensive question (13) ) question to start conversation. Questioning technique to initiating dialogue in Najwa Shibab are (1) Questioning Techniques of Common Problems, (2) Asking Special Matters, (3) Asking People's Opinions, (4) asking Someone's Judgment, (5) Asking Future prediction.
