Abstract

This research aims to determine the role of posts on Facebook in building
democratic attitude of students at SMK Mulya Husada Purwokerto. The method
used in this research is a case study with qualitative approach. The subjects of
this research were Teachers of Civics Education and other subjects, principals,
and students. The techniques of collecting data used are interview, observation,
documentation, and study of literature. Based on the results and discussion of the
research, it can be concluded that: 1) Facebook plays a role in building a
democratic attitude of students through information that can be used as a means
of learning democracy, for example through posts about politics, freedom of
expressing opinion in demonstrations, elections, and other examples of
nationalism attitude; 2) the posts on Facebook is considered as a part of the civics
education authentic learning by relating issues on the news posted via facebook to
the material of the lesson such as the concept of democracy. 3) Civics education
learning process is done by using various methods, media, and sources so that the
students are expected to be able to criticize every post and to ignore unreliable
posts (hoax).
