Abstract

This study aims to figure out frequency of map usage as learning media and types of map mostly used by teachers of geography subject in senior high schools in Banyumas regency. Map as a learning media possesses an important requirement for teachers, because it can convey messages to students and facilitate teachers during teaching. The survey is carried out as research method while data are collected using questionnaire, there are 32 teachers from both public and private high school in Banyumas regency. The samples are taken by quota sampling technique, and data processed using frequency tabulation and data analyzed by descriptive qualitative technique equipped with Quantitative data. The results shows that frequency of maps usage for learning media of 17 geography teachers are in between 2 to 8 times with percentage 53%. While the frequency of map usage of 11 geography teachers are in between 9 to 14 times with percentage of 34%, and the frequency of map usage of 4 georaphy students are above 14 times with percentage of 13%. The type of map mostly used by geography teachers in teaching is general map with percentage 44%. While the use both general and special maps are 53% and few teachers use only special maps in teaching, because it depends on material taught by them with percentage 3%.
