Abstract
The purpose of this research is to know the problems of students in learning vocabulary in the eighth graders of SMP MuhammadiyahAjibarang. The Method of research is survey, Population in this research was 8th grade student of SMP MuhammadiyahAjibarangThere were 4 classes,in which each class consisted of 23 students. Each class was taken 10 students as the sample, so the total sample in 40 students in number. To the instruments of questionnaire and interview were used to collect the research data. After taking the data the researcher analyzed them. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that the students’ difficulties in learning vocabulary covered aspects which are,averaged from the highest to the lower percentage scores : (1) difficulty in word classes (74,5%) ; (2) difficulty in pronunciation (74,1%) ; (3) difficulty in memorizing (74%) ; (4) difficulty in understanding the word meaning (71,4%) and (5) difficulty in remembering the word spelling (70,3%). In short, the students have high level difficulties of learning vocabulary in terms of the word classes,pronunciation, memory, word meaning and spelling.
