Abstract

The significance of this study was to reveal the students’ of English
Education Department ways in reflecting their writing product and the aims of this
study was to determine students’ understanding of how to write essay writing in
good theory and practice. This study focused on the understanding of the students
in essay writing. To get the answer of the research problem, the researcher used a
descriptive study method since the researcher wanted to find out or describe the
students’ reflection in essay writing class. This research only took one class in
English Education Department who were joining essay writing class. Therefore, the
sample of this research was essay writing class C which consisted of 24 students.
The sampling technique that was used in this research is purposive sampling
technique. The researcher collected the data by distributing questionnaire,
observing and interviewing the students. The researcher give the students a
questionnaire to measure students’ ability to reflect on their writing product. In
observing the researcher collect the data by observing the students and lecturer
activity in the class to get an appropriate data, and in interviewing the researcher
interview the students to supporting the main data. The result of this research there
were 19 students or 39,58% respondents stated that they found some difficulties to
start a paragraph and there were 19 students also or 6,80% respondents who stated
that their writing skills increased because of the feedback from their lecturer or their
friends. After doing some research the researcher concluded that the students did
some activities to reflect their writing product. First, student’s got feedback from
their friends and discuss the possible better writing. Second, students rewrote their
writing as the respond of teacher’s feedback. Third, students did self-reflection as
the final effort of their writing. The researcher concluded that reflection deals with
the others’ feedback and self-review.
