it’s aimed to describe about
how to use of the principle of politeness that using by the characters in
short story
that influenced by modesty social status and intimacy.
Types of research used in this study is
a
qualitative descriptive.
Data on
this research as conversation or dialogue of the characters are written in
short
story
containing by speech based on the principles of civility of social status,
intimacy, four gradations of civility, and three levels of sp
eech. Source of data
taken in the existing
short story
which is in the
Panjebar Semangat
magazine
edition 42 (27 October 2007), 43 ( 20 October 2007), 45 (10 November 2007), 44
(1 November 2008) and 46 (15 November 2008). This study use three stages of
the research phase of data collection, data analysis phase of data analysis and
presentation phases. In this stage of data analysis methods researchers use to refer
to the technique of tapping as essentially technical and advanced engineering
techniques as
noted. In presenting the results of data analysis phase of research
using informal methods.
Based research has been conducted on the principle of modesty in the use
of language based on social status and intimacy in

edition of the above. data obtained as follows, (a) based on social status
is higher than petutur speakers, speakers and speakers with petutur lower than
petutur, (b) based on intimacy, intimate and enemy, (c) by four gradations of
civility, which is less
courteous, somewhat courteous, polite and most polite, (d)
based on the level of speech that is
ngoko, Mudha krama,
and
krama inggil,
(e)
based on the principle of propriety of speech, namely the principle of wisdom, the
principle of generosity, principl
es of praise, humility principle, the principle of
consensus and sympathetic principle.
