Abstract
Background: In the hospital environment there are bacteria that live in the air,
water, soil, floor, food, medical and non-medical apparatus. This bacteria can
cause nosocomial infections which acquired and obtained during hospitalization.
Infectious diseases can be treated by antibiotics but it often problem by caused by
this bacterial resistant to antibiotics.
Objetive: The purpose of research was to isolate bacteria from soil samples on
Hospital Wijayakusuma and identified the resistance of bacteria isolate of
bacteria isolate toward some antibiotics as well as identified the family of bacteria
based on Gram staining and biochemical characteristic.
Methods: The method of this research was descriptive non-experimental.
Bacterial resistance test used the disc diffusion method (Kirby & Bauer test).
Antibiotic which was used were amoxicillin, chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin,
gentamicin and oxytetracycline. Identification bacteria with biochemical test used
oxidase test, catalase test, carbohydrate fermentation test, methyl red test and
Voges proskauer test.
Result : The research was succeded to isolate 94 bacteria. Based on macroscopic
observations of each culture showed that all colonies morphology was round,
average elevation showed smooth surface structure and white color colonies.
From the total of 94 bacteria, there were 54 bacteria resistant to one antibiotic, and
there were 10 bacteria resistant to two antibiotics: amoxicillin and
chloramphenicol. Based on the staining of bacteria from 64 resistant bacteria there
were 52 bacteria Gram positive and 12 bacteria Gram negative. Identification of
bacteria resistant exhibited that bacteria WK-5, WK-26, WK-80 and WK-49
belonged to the genus Bacillus. Bacteria WK-76 and WK-84 belonged to the
family Enterobacter. Bacteria-9 WK, WK-45 and WK-91 belonged to the genus
Streptococcus. WK-74 bacteria belonged to the genus Micrococcus.
Conclusion:. From soil samples at hospital Wijayakusuma was isolated 94, 64
bacteria resistant to antibiotics, 52 bacteria Gram positive and 12 bacteria Gram
negative. From the 10 bacteria which were resistant to two antibiotics, it
suggested that some isolate of bacteria belonged to genus Bacillus, Sterptococcus,
Enterobacter and Micrococcus.
