Education is very important for the progress of a nation, and therefore the
role of education required to print generation of people who think critically.
Learning through civic education students are expected to foster nationalism in
the school environment through activities such as flag ceremonies. This research
aims to determine how learning Civics in improving student nationalism, what are
the barriers and how the efforts made to overcome the obstacles in the
implementation of learning to enhance nationalism Civics students at SMP Negeri
9 Purwokerto. Research subjects in this study were Civics teachers, students, and
the head of SMP Negeri 9 Purwokerto. Data collection techniques are used
interview techniques, observation techniques, technical documentation, and use
the validation data using triangulation of data, and techniques of data analysis is
data reduction, data presentation and conclusion of data. Based on the results of
studies that have analyzed the obtained conclusion that learning Civic Education
plays a role in increasing nationalism SMP Negeri 9 Purwokerto. The conclusion
of this study were 1) Education Learning Citizenship (Civics) in the formation of
nationalist attitudes in students done through several ways including through the
selection of methods and media appropriate learning tailored to the curriculum so
that students easily understand. 2) constraints encountered in teaching Civics in
the formation of nationalist attitudes of students in there is still a lack of proper
teachers choose teaching methods and media that are still found students who do
not understand the meaning of nationalism. 3) Efforts made in overcoming
obstacles faced in teaching Civics in the formation of nationalist attitudes of
students through various ways such as to involve the students in some school
activities are expected to develop a sense of nationalism students, one of them
through extra-curricular activities.
