Abstract
The aims of this research were: (1) to find out the level of students’ competence in noun clause; (2) to identify the errors made by the students in noun clause. This research used descriptive method. The writer determined the sixth semester students in four classes of English department of Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto as population. The total population was 155. The writer took more than 20% (approximately 34%) from population as a sample by taking random sampling technique. The total sample was 35 students. The data was collected through test. After the research was conducted, it revealed that the students’ competence in noun clause belonged to fair category. The result of the data analysis showed that the students’ correct answer was 55.88 %. In this research, it was found that the dominant error made by the students in noun clause was misformation because they did not master the overall noun clause well. Those errors happened because students do not know the correct form of noun clause, especially, in the construction of wh-question.
