This research aimed to dislose the mathematical problem solving skills on
comparison subject matter of Class VII SMPN 1 Kutasari. The type of this
research was descriptive qualitative. This implemented purposive sampling
technique to select the subjects. Among 34 students of Class VII A who joined the
test, the researcher selected two students for each group category: high-skill,
average-skill, and low skill students. The data collection techniques were test,
interview, and documentation. The data analysis technique included some stages,
namely data reduction, data display, drawing conclusion, and verification. The
results indicated that among the four stated indicators of mathematical problem
solving skills, the high-skill students at least could fullfil three of them, the
average-skill students mastered three indicators, and the low-skill students not
mastered all of the indicators of mathematical problem solving skills.
