Abstract

The aim of the research was to know the effectiveness of “Team Pair Solo” for teaching reading at the eighth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Belik in academic year 2011/2012. The method of the research was experiment. The samples of this research were 36 students from class VIII A as the experimental class and 36 students from VIII B as the control class. The experimental class was taught using cooperative learning type Team Pair Solo while the control class was taught using conventional technique. To collect the data, the writer used tests, they were the pre-test and post-test. The writer used t-test as a technique of analyzing the data. Based on the data analysis, it was found that t-test score was 4.596 while t-table score at level of significance 0.05 for df 70 is 1.667. So, t-test is higher than t-table (4.596 > 1.667). It means that team pair solo is effective for teaching reading at the eighth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Belik in Academic Year 2011/2012.
