Sugesti Hayuning Tyas. The Effect of Drug Counseling To The Improvement Of Self Medication In Banyumas.

Background: Drug Consumption had been part of self medication when people suffered or illness, therefore to minimize the unsuitable combination between drugs and its complaint, it needed socialization to the people about the safety in consuming sort of drug in doing self medication. Counseling is one of metods and as an interesting media, such as giving speech and group discussion through leaflet media.
Purpose of the research : This research was aimed to analyze the effect of drugs counseling to the improvement of self medication in Banyumas. In addition, it tried to observe the effectiveness of method that was used in giving counseling in self medication.
Materials and Methods: The sample was taken from 192 questionnaires distributed in Banyumas, those questionnaire adderessed to housewive that usually did self medication through OTC drugs and limited OTC drugs. This research used quasi experiment with pretest and posttest design in tow groups, group disccusion and speech. The effect of counseling to the self medication was analyzed through independent t-test design in α=0,05.
Research Results: The counseling through group discussion and speech with leaflet showed influential to the improvment of people’s knowledge with the difference approximately= 18.77 and significantly degree= 0.000 for group discussion, while approximate difference = 18,81 and significant degree = 0.000 for speech method. People’s attitude with approximate difference= 73.97 and significantly degree= 0.000 for group discussion, while approximate difference = 72.15 and significant degree 0,000.
Conclusion: Counseling through discussion and speech method with leaflet, both gave same effectiveness in improving people’s attitude which was in the from of knowladge and self medication attitude.
