Abstract
Fuel requirement increases with the increase of population. The use of fuel gas and oil are not fully be done by most people because of the limited capacity of the economy, fuel shortages and the community's dependency on the use of fuel such as kerosene and gas. One alternative fuel that can be used are briquettes. The use of briquettes as fuel then we can save the use of wood as the primary outcome of the woods. In addition the use of charcoal briquettes can save the cost of buying kerosene or LPG. One ingredient that is abundant in nature in the form of waste is is a coconut shell with the addition of an adhesive material such as starch and biodiesel at several different concentrations. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of different concentrations of starch on the density, moisture content and calorific value of the briquettes and to determine the effect of different concentrations of biodiesel on the density, the rate of combustion and calorific value in the briquettes.
The method used is the experimental method, and the results will be analyzed descriptively. The treatment is done by combining the type of materials to make briquettes (coconut shell) with the level of 3%, 4% and 5%, as well as the provision of diesel fuel with a level of 5cc, 10cc, 15cc and 20cc. The variables in the research is a free variable form of starch with various levels, among others, 3%, 4% and 5%. and administration of a mixture of diesel with different levels, among others 5cc, 10cc, 15cc and 20cc. variabel bound form of coconut shell charcoal and water.
Results were obtained that are directly proportional relationship between the concentration of starch 4% of the calorific value and moisture content in the briquettes produced. And there is a proportional outcome between starch concentration of 5% with the low value of the heat produced by high water content. That are the result of the concentration of diesel fuel is directly proportional to the rate burning, while inversely related to density and calorific value of the briquettes produced.
