The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of Word Wall in
teaching English vocabulary at the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2
Ajibarang in academic year 2013/2014.
This research was experimental research. The population of this research
was 257 students of SMP Negeri 2 Ajibarang. There were two classes of sample.
The writer took 60 students as the sample. Class VII A consisted of 30 students as
the control class and class VII B consisted of 30 students as the experimental
class. The treatment was given for the experimental class. The writer conducted
pre-test before giving the treatment and post-test after giving the treatment. The
instruments used to collect data were Word Wall and text. The students were
asked to identify the word in the text and classify those words using Word Wall.
After the data were collected, the writer analyzed it. The data were
analyzed by using t-test computation to know the effectiveness of Word Wall.
Then, the result showed that the mean score of pre-test and post-test for
experimental class were 61.60 and 78.00, while for control class were 68.80 and
72.93. The deviation score of the experimental class was 26.62 while the
deviation score of control class was 6.01. The t-test result was 4.613 and t-table
for d.f 58 at the level significance = 0.05 is 1.672, so the result showed that ttest
was higher than t-table (4.613 > 1.672). It means that Word Wall is effective
for teaching vocabulary at the seventh garde students of SMP Negeri Ajibarang in
acdemic year 2013/2014.
