The objective of the research is to improve students‟ vocabulary mastery. This
research was conducted at SMP Ma‟arif NU 01 Karangkobar Academic Year 2012/2013 as
the subject of the research. The subject of the research were consisted of 34 students of first
grade.
The method used in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The
Classroom Action Research (CAR) was done based Kemmis & Mc Taggart‟s design, it
contents of two cycles in each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing and reflecting.
The data were gathered through qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data were
gained by analyzing the interview and observation research. Then, quantitative data were
obtained from the students‟ vocabulary score pre-test and post-test.
Based on the result of this research showed that there was development on students‟
vocabulary mastery. It can be seen from the mean score of pre-test was 63, the mean score of
post-test 1 was 69 and the mean score of post-test 2 was 78. In addition, there were 4 students
(11,8% ) who passed the KKM in pre- test. Meanwhile, in the cycle 1, there were 19 students
(55,8%) who passed the KKM and it gained which was in the post-test cycle 2 there were 30
students (88,2%) who passed the KKM, so the criteria of success was achieved. Furthermore,
the result of observation and interview showed that the students were motivated in teaching
learning process during the implementation of flashcard.
