This study focused in analysing the connotative meaning in “Ronggeng
Dukuh Paruk” novel of Javanese and English versions by Ahmad Tohari. That
there are many words or compound words contain the connotative meaning in this
novel.
This study is descriptive qualitative research because it did not deal with
number at all. Then, this research use qualitative research because the aim of this
research is to describe the connotative meaning of novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk
in a complete, detailed description but not to classify features, count them, and
construct statistical models in an attempt to explain what is observed
(Qualitative).
The results of this study show the form of connotative, and then show
there are many words and compound words containing the connotative meaning
in the novel. Connotative meaning can be divided into three kinds, namely
positive connotative (pure word) and negative connotative (snarl word). Besides
the positive and negative connotative meaning, there is neutral connotative that is
most of them is jargon language. The most emerging in this analysis are the word
or compound word include negative connotative meaning.
