The aim of the research was to find out whether brochures as a media in teaching descriptive writing at the seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Kertanegara was effective or not.
The research was conducted at SMP N 1 Kertanegara. The method of the research was experimental method; the experiment was carried out in January 2010. The population of this research was 60 students, consisting of two; they were VII A as the experiment class and VII B as the control class. The sampling technique used by the writer was random sampling. In collecting the data, the writer used test (pre- test and post- test).
After the data was analyzed, it was found that the class mastery in experiment class was category good with the mean of post- test mastery of 74,97 and there is positive effect of brochures approach at the seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Kertanegara. It could be seen from the result of t-test computation is 4,4478 and the t- table in degree of freedom (d.f) was 58 and the level of significant 5% was found that t- table is 2.042. So the t-test result was higher than t- table value (4.4478>2.042). It means that the hypothesis which states that brochures is effective for teaching descriptive writing at the seventh students of SMP N 1 Kertanegara academic year 2010/2011 is accepted.
