This research entitled “Capability of Using Noun in Its Sentences Function and
Role on Compositions Written by Eight Grade Students of SMP Negeri 3 Purwokerto”
aimed to describe the students‟ capability in using noun in its sentence function and
role on compositions written by Eight Grade Students of SMP Negeri 3 Purwokerto.
It was a descriptive quantitative research. The research data were sentences on
the students‟ composition. The reserach took the data with giing the students task to
write a composition, then she submitted them to analyze. She gave score of each
sentence. The score was matched with scoring guidance.
Students‟ capability of using noun consisted of teo aspects. They were
syntactical function and aspect of syntactical role. On aspect of syntactical function,
the result of students‟ capability of using noun was 98.1%. There were five function in
this aspect: (1) Subject function, the students‟ capability was excellent. Their average
score was 98.3. (2) Predicate function. Their capability was also excellent, even their
average score was 98.7. (3) Object function, their capability was perfect. Their
average score was 100. (4) Complementary function, their capability was excellent.
They got 94.5, and (5) Adverb function, their capability was also excellent. Their
average score was 99.5. Whereas, their capability based on aspect of syntactical role
reached 97.1%. It included: (1) Actor role, their capability of using noun was
excellent. Their average score was 94.5, (2) Gola role, their capability was also
excellent. They average score reached 98.3, (3) Experiencer role, their capability was
perfect. Their average score was 100, (4) Classified role, their capability was
excellent. Their average score was reached 96.9, (5) Classifier role, their capability
was perfect. Their average score was 100, and (6) Adveb of place role, their capability
