Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effectivenes of Ludo Words
Game (LWG) for teaching vocabulary. This research used quasi experimental, the
subjects of the research were class VIII D with 26 students as experimental class
and class VIII B with 26 students as control class. Ludo Words Game (LWG) was
applied in experimental class while control class was taught by using lecturing
method of teaching. Test was used for collecting the data, namely pre-test and
post-test, and the instrument was tried out to part of the eighth grade students of
SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto which aimed to know the validity, reliability,
and item difficulty of the instrument. The test consisted of essay items. After
getting the data, it was analyzed by using t-test formula. The result of t-test
computation was higher than t-table. It was 3.6659 and the result of t-table at
significant level 0.05 with degree of freedom 50 = 1.299. It could be concluded
that t-obtained was higher than t-table ( 3.6659 > 1.299). To sum up, Ludo Words
Game (LWG) was effective for teaching English vocabulary at the second grade
students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto in academic year 2013/2014. So
the hypothesis which saying that Ludo Words Game was effective was acceptable.
