Skin diseases chronic can be caused by exposure to UV radiation of
sunlight which causes the formation of free radicals. This can be reduced by using
sunscreen cosmetics. One of the natural active ingredients that can protect the
body's tissues caused by free radicals from UV radiation is skin of cassava tubers
(Manihot esculenta Crantz). On the other hand, it can also be formulated in
dosage forms lotion. The purpose of this study it’s to formulate skin extract
cassava tubers into lotions as well as its physical. The physical test included
organoleptic test, dispersive power test , adhesion test, stability test, pH, viscosity,
and test activities on the value of SPF (Sun protection factor). The formulations of
lotion were made in 3 concentration. Those were concentration of 5%, 15% and
20%. The test results showed that the physical nature of the lotion was good in
term of organoleptic, test stability, pH, viscosity, and adhesion dispersive power
lotion. Moreover, the physical nature of the lotion met the required range. The
results of SPF test for the concentration of 5% was 0.8, which means it has no
effectiveness as sunscreen. While the concentration of 15% was 1.2. It means that
it has minimal protection against UV B rays and the concentration of 20% has
minimal protection against light UV B.
