This research was aimed to describe: 1)How are the RDP’s compound
words realized in The Dancer 2) What are shifts occurred in the translation of
RDP’s compound words into The Dancer 3) How is the equivalence in the shifts.
The type of this research is descriptive method.
The data were taken from Novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk Indonesian
Version as its base and the equivalence in English Version. Novel Ronggeng
Dukuh Paruk is one of the famous novels in Indonesia. This novel is written by
Ahmad Tohari.
The researcher read the novels Indonesian and English version, finds the
compound words in Indonesian version as its base, find the equivalence of the
compound words of Indonesian version into English version.
The result shows that 1)The RDP’s compound words realized in The
Dancer, the researcher found the English Compound word that is, there are two
types of compound that found in English version they are compound noun and
compound adjective. Most of compound words in English version have the head
on the right except the compound words door step.Based on the meaning of the
compound there are two types of the compounds found in English version they are
Endocentric and Exocentric compounds.2) The shifts occured in the translation of
RDP’s compound words into The Dancer consists from several forms they are
simple word, complex word, phrase, idiom, conjunction and also untranslatble
word in its English version. And the entire category included into category of Non
compound words.3)The equivalence in the shifts in its English version they are
well translated meaning with same form and different form and also non
equivalence meaning with same form and different form.
