Abstract

Fish breeding, especially bream was growing very fast. It was supported
by the people requests were growing each year. However, there were some
problems to the breeding such as Motil Aeromonas Septicemia (MAS) caused by
Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria. One of the ways to cure the bacteria was
antibiotic. It was effective, meanwhile it caused resistance to bacteria and there
was residue to the fish. Therefore, it was needed to have natural substance to cure
MAS such as ocimum. The research was aimed to observe the effectiveness of
ocimum aetheric oil to the growth of Aeromonas hydrophila GPl-04. The research
was done in microbiology lab University of Muhammadiyah Purwokerto and
taxonomy la University of Jenderal Soedirman in four months. It was experiment
research through Complete Random Design (RAL) with 7 types of treatment,
which was 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%, add by 2 controls, negative (0%) and
positive (Chloramphenicol). Each of the treatment was repeated three times.
Ocimum aetheric oil was obtained from steam distillation. The parameter
observed was blocked zone producted by ocimum aetheric oil and
chloramphenicol. To analyze the data, it was done through Analysis of Variance
(ANOVA) with 95% level of significance and continued with lowest differentiate
test (BNT) with 95% level of significance. The research showed that ocimum
aetheric oil could hinder the growh of A. hydrophila GPl-04, and there was
difference among the treatmens. However, based on CLSI, it was classified as
resistance category and not effective if it was compared to chloramphenicol
antibiotic. The comparative between ocimum aetheric oil and chloramphenicol
antibiotic was 52,576 : 1 (ppm/unit).
