Abstract

This research was aimed at finding out whether there was any significant difference on students‟ grammar mastery between students who joined IET program and those who did not join at the first semester students of English Education Department in the academic year 2014/2015. A descriptive comparative method involving 60 students selected as the research subject had been used in this research, 30 students as students who joined IET program and 30 students as students who did not join IET program. The test consisted of multiple choice items and completion items had been used to collect the primary data, while observation had been conducted to collect the secondary data of the research. This study focused on six tenses, they were simple present, present continuous, simple past, past continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous. The technique of data analysis used was t-test. The t-test result of simple present was lower than t-table (0.476<1.673). For present continuous, the t-test result was higher than t-table (2.147>1.673). The t-test result of simple past was lower than t-table (0.642<1.673). Then, the t-table was higher than t-test result of past continuous (1.673>1.488). Moreover, t-test result of present perfect and present perfect continuous was also lower than t-table. It could be concluded that there was significant difference between students who joined IET program and those who did not join only in the present continuous tense. In conclusion, there was significant difference on students‟ grammar mastery between students who joined IET program and those who did not join IET program.
