A Descriptive Study in the Students Competence in WH Questions

The aims of the research are: To know how good the students’
competence in using WH question and what the most often errors are made by
students in using WH questions. The number of the second grade students
number is 250 students, so the research computed 15 % of the number of
population and the total number of students who was taken as sample was 37
students. The sampling technique was used in this research was random
sampling.
To collect the data, the writer used multiple choices, true false,
English translation and jumbled word. The writer used test to collect data from
the sample. The test was administered once time only. It was in the form of
completion test.
Data collected from this instrument the students’ classical
competency belonged to category good. It can be seen from calculation of the
students’ classical score that is 73%.
The writer only discussed the error which was made by more than
70% students, This means the writer discusses number I = 4,5,6,7,10,13,
15,16,17; II = 3; III = 1,4,5; IV = 2,3, the writer found that the errors made by
students are intralingua errors. It is ignorance restriction 26.66%, over
generalization is 53.33%, and false concept hypothesized is 20%.
