Abstract

Kepok banana’s peel is a huge and unused organic waste. Kepok banana’s
peel is about 11,48%. Bioethanol from it can increase economic value and reduce
organic waste of banana’s peel in society. The aim of research was to identify the
impact of starter concentration and fermentation period to bioethanol level on the
fermentation of kapok banana’s peel. The research conducted on December 2012
– February 2013 at Microbiology Laboratory of Teacher Training Program Study
of Biology Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto. The research method was
experiment that used Random Sampling Factorial with 2 factors were starter
concentration (3%, 5%, 7%, 9%) and fermentation period (6, 9, 12 days) with 3
repetitions. Starter was from inoculums Saccharomyces cerevisiae in quantity and
physiologic condition that was ready for inoculated on the media of kapok
banana’s peel. Research parameter was bioethanol level. Data analysis used
analysis of varians (anova) and if there was significant difference, it would get
Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) on 5% level test. The result showed that
starter concentration and fermentation period gave significant impact to the
production of bioethanol level (P<0,05). Starter concentration 7% with
fermentation period for 6 days (S7L6) was the best action in production of highest
bioethanol about 5,35%.
