Abstract
This research was aimed at improving students’ speaking skill using stick figure. It used Classroom Action Research (CAR), which was conducted at VIII A grade students of MTs Al-Ma’arif in academic year 2010/2011. The population of class was 28 students. It was done on April 2011. The writer worked collaboratively with the English teacher there. The CAR was carried out based on Kemmis and Mc. Taggart design. The writer took two cycles with two actions in each cycle. The result of action was reflected in the next step. There were two kinds of data; qualitative data and quantitative one. The qualitative data were taken from observation, interview, documentation and field note. Whereas, the quantitative one was taken to measure the student result in pre and post test also in observation by calculating the percentage of indicators to measure weather there was an improvement or not. The result of research showed that there was a significant improvement of the students’ speaking skill using stick figure. The data was gained from observation of students’ individual activity. In cycle 1 the result was 18.75% and cycle 2 the result was 67.75%. Therefore, the improvement of students’ result was 49%. There was an improvement of post test at the end of cycle 1 and cycle 2. In cycle 1 the result was 284 and cycle 2 was 314. Then, the data from the interview result showed that the students felt enjoy in speaking using stick figure. From those results, it can be concluded that stick figure can improve students’ speaking skill.
