Abstract

This research was aimed at examining the effectiveness of Tic Tac
Boom game for teaching English vocabulary for second grade students at
one of Junior High School in Banyumas in academic year 2014/2015. A
quasi experimental research was selected to conduct this research. The
participants of this research were the second grade students at one of Junior
High School in Banyumas. There were two classes which class B as the
experimental class and class C as the control class. Test was used in
collecting the data of this research, namely pre-test and post-test. The test
consisted of multiple choice items, matching test items, and arranging the
jumbled letters items. The data analysis from pre-test and post-test shows
that the value of t-test is 0.05 with probability (p) 0.05. Thus, the value of ttest
counted is the same as the wrong probability (p) 0.05 which can be
stated as a significant result. It was strengthened by the satisfying result of
two vocabulary aspects. There were word class and word meaning. In brief,
it can be concluded that hypothesis is acceptable, or in other words, Tic Tac
Boom game is effective for teaching English vocabulary for the second
grade students of Junior High School level particularly in the students’
competence of word class and word meaning.
