Abstract

The aim of the research was to find out the effectiveness of the method in teaching present continuous tense for Second Grade Students of SMP Muhammadiyah Sumbang in Academic Year 2012/2013. This research used experimental method. The population of this research was the second grade of SMP Muhammadiyah Sumbang in academic year 2012/2013. The total number of the second grade students was 138 students. The sample of this research were class VIII A consisting of 35 students, who became a control group and class VIII B as an experiment group consisting of 35 students. Having analyzed the data, the researcher found that non verbal communication method gave significant effect in teaching English present continuous tense. T-test result was 2.816, with d.f 68 is 1.995. It means that T-test result was higher than T-table (2.816 > 1.995). Based on the computation of the analysis it could be concluded that non verbal communication method was effective to teach present continuous tense to the Second Grade Students of SMP Muhammadiyah Sumbang in Academic Year 2012/2013.
