Abstract

The civic knowledge is one of the competences that the students need to have. Nowadays, the students’ knowledge have not shown the maximum result, it is because of the civic education still emphasized on material mastery or rote-oriented. This situation made the researcher eager to know about how big the effect of civic education learning towards the improvement of students’ civic knowledge. Therefore, this research was aimed at knowing the effect of civic education learning toward the students’ civic knowledge. The research used quantitative approach. The method was descriptive method with survey technique. The subject of this research was the students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Bobotsari. The sample of the research was determined based on cluster sampling technique and proportional random sampling, therefore, the sample was 43 students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Bobotsari. The data collection were taken by using questionnaire supported by interview, documentation, and observation. Based on the result of this research, the effect of civic education learning toward the students’ civic knowledge was 0.730 with the indicator of material, media, method, and evaluation of civic learning. The effect of school environment toward civic knowledge was 0.561. The civic learning and school environment simultaneously affect the students’ civic knowledge which was 0.745 with the significance level 0.01. Based on the data aforementioned, it can be concludded that there is significant effect of civic learning toward the improvement of students’ civic education in SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Bobotsari.
