Abstract

Aim of this research was to improve students writing skill in organizing
idea using short movie as media. The research was Classroom Action Research, in
academic year 2012/2013. This research was done for two weeks (10 January – 24
January).
The class consists of 38 students. It conducting the research, the writer
worked collaboratively with the English teacher. The data were collected through
the test, interview, field note, and documentation. There were qualitative data that
were collected and analyzed. The writer took two cycles with two actions. In each
cycle, there underwent planning that should be appropriate with the problem
faced, followed by the implementation of the actions. The result of action was
affected to decide if there were improvements or not. The increase of the student’s
writing in organizing idea could be seen from their writing result in the pre test
that was 56.71 %, and the post test of the 1st cycle was 66.58 % or it increase
about 17.4 %. And it could be seen that there was an improvements of the 2nd
cycle post test, which was 74.24 % or it increase about 30.9 % from the score pre
test and 7.66 % from 1st cycle post test. By observing, it could be seen that short
movie could improve the students’ writing skill in organizing idea. On the other
hand short movie gave the students more interest in learning English.
