Abstract

This research was aimed at knowing “The students‟ Attitude towards English Language Learning at First Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Karangpucung academic year 2012/2013.” The research was conducted on 15 to 16 May 2013 at SMP Negeri 1 Karangpucung.
The sample was 30 students. The method used was a descriptive method. In collecting the data, the writer used questionnaire, interview and observation as the instruments.
Having analyzed the data, the writer found a similarity between the result of questionnaire, interview and observation. The result of questionnaire showed that students‟ activity had the lowest percentage of 6 indicators used in this research, it was 50%. It belongs to fair category. However, the result of interview and observation showed that students‟ activeness is a problem. From the interview either the teacher or the students admitted that the main problem that was faced by both of them was the students‟ low activeness. Based on the observation, the writer knew the real condition of class activity, there was no contribution from the students during the lesson.
