Abstract

The aim of this study was to know the effectiveness of using PORPE
Method in teaching reading toward the X Grade MA Salafiyah Grogol Penatus
Kebumen in Academic Year 2013.
The quasi experimental research was held on April 29-May 23-2013. The
total sample was 32 subjects, and they were divided into two groups; 16 subjects
from class X.1 as an experiment group and 16 subjects from class X.2 as control
group. The experiment group was taught with PORPE for teaching reading. This
study used test as an instrument for collecting the data. The test was done twice,
they were pre-test and post-test.
After the data was collected, it was analyzed using t-test. Based on the
computation, t-test result was 3.99, and the t-table was 1.697. It means that t-test
result was higher than t-table (3.99 > 1.697). It could be concluded that PORPE
Method was effective for teaching reading at the X Grade MA Salafiyah Grogol
Penatus Kebumen in Academic Year 2013.
