Abstract

Eggplant peel (Solanum melongena L.) has a free radical scavenging
activity with IC50 of 26,8224 ppm. The purpose of this study to to determine the
possibility of eggplant extract can be used as a natural dye on the preparation of
lipstick and free radical scavenging activity from eggplant peel lipstick. Eggplant
peel extracted using 96% ethanol: water: HCl with maceration method. Extracts
was formulated into 3 lipstick formulas with concentrations of 15, 20, and 25%.
Lipstick tested physical properties, stability for 30 days and free radical
scavenging activity with DPPH method (1,1-diphenyl-2- picrylhydrazyl). The
results showed that eggplant peel extract lipstick does not meet the requirement of
pH, but qualified the melting point and homogeneity. Lipstick extract of eggplant
peel is not stable during of 30 days storage because of a change its organoleptic.
Lipstick extract of eggplant peel has a free radical scavenging activity. At
concentration of 25% has a better free radical scavenging activity than of negative
control.
