The research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) entitled “An effort to improve listening short story skill through cooperative learning using jigsaw in the eleventh graders of sport study program in SMA N 3 Purwokerto in the academic year of 2013-2104”. The research was aimed at knowing the improvement of listening short story skill through cooperative learning using jigsaw in the eleventh graders of sport study program in SMA N 3 Purwokerto.
The subjects of this research were the students of eleventh grade of sport study program consisted of 29 students. There were only 25 students who joined the teaching learning process and the rest of them were out of the town because of joining school’s activity there. This research was conducted in two cycles, cycle I and cycle II. There were four steps in each cycle. the planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The research became the observer and the teacher became the model.
The result showed that there was an improvement at each cycle. in pre test the mean was 53,2 and there wa no student who reached good achievement. After the treatment ws implemented in cycle I, the mean increased to 78 and there were 17 students (68%) who reached good achievement. In cycle II the mean was 84,8 and there were 23 students (92%) who reached good achievement. Therefore, in can drawn a conclusion that the cooperative learning using jigsaw is able to improve the students’ listening short story skill in the eleventh graders if sport study program in SMA N 3 Purwokerto.
