Abstract

The aims of this research were (1) to find out the types of grammatical errors made by the student (2) to know the frequency of error that made by the students. The method used in this research was descriptive research. This research chose the eleventh year students of SMK Muhammadiyah Bobotsari in academic year 2014/2015 as population. The total population was 300 students. This research took 15% from the population, so the sample of this research was 45 students. The errors collected were identified and classified using Linguistic Category Taxonomy as a guideline. The results present the types of grammatical error and the percentage of each type . The type of grammatical error was divided into morphology and syntax category. From the highest to the lowest frequency of occurrence in morphology category, as follows : (1) error in plural noun (10.47%), (2) error in past participle (5.24%), (3) error of indefinite article (4.71%), (4) error in simple past tense (4.19%), (5) error in using adjective and adverb (4 .19%) and (6) error in possessive case (1.05%). In syntax category (1) error in the use of past tense (29.32%), (2) error in verb - and - verb construction (13.09%), (3) the addition of to be (13.09%), (4) the omission of main verb (12.04%), (5) error in word order: noun phrase (1.57%) and (6) the omission of there is reached 1.05%
