Abstract

The aims of the research were: (1) to know the students’ habit in browsing English article in the internet, (2) to know the students’ vocabulary mastery, and (3) to know the correlation between students’ habit in browsing English article in the internet and their vocabulary mastery.
The sample of this research was 38 students. The data were collected through questionnaire and document. The writer took the data in January 2013 at the third semester students of the English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto in academic year 2012/2013. This research used random sampling technique and in order to get the sample, the writer used lottery method. To know the correlation between students’ habit in browsing English article in the internet and their vocabulary mastery, the writer used product-moment correlation coefficient formula.
After the data had been analyzed, it was found that there was a correlation between students’ habit in browsing English article in the internet and their vocabulary mastery. It can be seen from the result of product moment computation where rxy obtained was 0.579, and the critical value of r-table for N= 38 at the level of significance 5% is 0.320. So, the result of rxy was higher than that of r-table (0.579>0.320). So, it can be concluded that there was a significant correlation between students’ habit in browsing English article in the internet and their vocabulary mastery.
