Abstract

The aim of this research was to improve the students’ reading comprehension by using PQ4R Strategy. The writer took 32 students as the subject of the research. The writer did collaboration with the English teacher in the class. The CAR was carried out based on Kemis and McTaggart’s design. The writer took two cycles with 2 actions in each cycle. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The writer applied both qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data were taken from observation result of students’ activity. The quantitative data were taken from students’ reading test result and the questionnaire. The result of this research showed that there was a significant improvement in students’ reading comprehension after implementing the CAR using PQ4R Strategy. The average score of the students in reading test was 5.66 in pre-test. The average score of students improved 7.25 (28.09%) in Cycle 1 and improved to 8.94 (57.95%) in Cycle 2. The average of students’ questionnaire that was filled “Yes” was 86.24%. The average of each indicator of students’ observation was 64.67 in Cycle 1 and improved 91.11 (26.14%) in Cycle 2. Those data proved that PQ4R Strategy could improve students’ reading comprehension.
