Abstract

This study aims to determine (1) the influence of reading habits with big-book
media on the development of social attitudes, (2) the influence of reading habits
with big-book media to increase students' critical thinking ability. This type of
research is quasi experiment. This study involves two groups, the control group
and the experimental group. This study uses Cluster Sampling technique (Area
Sampling). The methods of data collection is by conducting observations related
to social attitudes and also using tests to measure students' critical thinking
ability. This research uses observation and assessment sheets as instruments. The
validity of the instrument used in this research is the content validity which is
followed by consultation with the expert (expert judgment). The result of this
research shows that (1) reading habit has positive effect on the development of
learners' social attitude as the significance value is 0.000 < the alpha value is
0.05, then Ho who states reading habits does not positively affect the development
of the social attitudes of learners are rejected and Ha which states reading habits
has positive effect on the development of social attitudes of students is accepted
(2) reading habits has positive effect on the critical thinking ability of learners as
the significance value of 0,000 <0, 55 alpha value, so Ho which states reading
habit does not positively affect the development of critical thinking ability is
rejected and Ha which states reading habit has a positive effect on the
development of Critical thinking ability of learners is accepted.Keywords:
