The aim of this research is to improve motivation and achievement in
learning Civic Education in material of definition and means of international
relations for a state throughCooperative Learning type NHT (Numbered Head
Together) at second grade students of IPS SMA Mhammadiyah Pangandaran. The
subjects of this research are 28 students of IPS. It consists of 13 male and 15
female students. This research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consist of
planning, acting, observing and reflecting. Time allocation for action was 2 x 45
minutes of teaching and learning process for each cycle. The data was collected
by conducting observation, interview, and test. The data was analyzed by using
descriptive percentage technique. The average of students’ motivation in learning
increased from cycle 1 meeting (73.53) to cycle 2 meeting (82, 69). Based on the
result of the research, the mean value of the students’ learning motivation in cycle
I obtained 73.53 or good and it increased until 82.69 or very good in Cycle II. The
students’ learning achievement of Cycle I to Cycle II increased. In Cycle I, there
were 20 of 28 students who completed and the rest wasincomplete. The mean
value of Cycle I was 72.67 and its mastery learning classically obtained 71.42 %.
Meanwhile, in Cycle II, there were 26 of 28 students who completed and the rest
was incomplete.The mean value of Cycle II was 86.07 and its mastery learning
classically obtained 92.85 %. Based on the result above, it can be concluded that
the motivation and achievement of second grade of IPS class aboutdefinition and
means of international relations for a state can be improved by using “Numbered
Head Together”.
