Abstract
Atenolol is a beta-blocker drug for the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
Cardiovascular drugs are at high risk, because cardiovascular drugs often
experience adverse drug reactions that require monitoring of drug therapy. The
purpose of this study was to prove that the thin layer chromatography (TLC)-
densitometry method meet validation parameters including specificity, LOd and
LOQ, linearity, accuracy, and precision, so that it can be used for urine atenolol
analysis. Separation was done by TLC using silica gel 60 F254 (20 cm x 20 cm) as
the stationary phase while the mobile phase consist of chloroform-methanolammonia
(4 : 6 : 0,2 v/v) and UV detection at 275 nm. The result showed that
value of LOD that is 1.34 μg and LOQ 4.08 μg, linearity from 6 - 36 μg,
correlation coefficient (r) = 0.9990. The means % recovery was 93.86% and
relative standard deviation (RSD) of precision was 4.22%. The result showed that
TLC-densitometry method could be used for the analysis of atenolol in human
urine in vitro.
