Abstract

This research was aimed at proving that team word-webbing was effective for teaching narrative writing at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Jeruklegi in academic year 2014/2015. This research used quasi experimental research. The subject were 72 students which consisted of two classes, namely experimental and control class. The experimental class (VIII A) was treated by using team word-webbing and control class (VIII B) was not. The teaching material in this research was writing narrative text. The technique of data collection of this research were pre-test and post-test. The type of the test was essay writing test which was evaluated by interraters using Nurgiyantoro’ writing scoring system that measured content, organization, vocabulary, language, and writing mechanic. Based on data analysis, the mean score in experimant class got improvement 16.11 from pre-test 61.47 to post-test 77.58. Then, the mean score in control class had improvement 12.73 from pre-test 59.24 to post-test 71.97. It meant the experiment class got higher improvement than the control class (16.11>12.73). The t-test result 2.68906 also showed that it was higher than t-table value with degree of freedom (df) 70 at significant level 0.05 was 1.6669 (2.68906>1.6669). Therefore, the hypothesis which stated that team word-webbing was effective for teaching narrative writing at the eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Jeruklegi in academic year 2014/2015 was accepted.
