Abstract

The aim of this study was to figure out the effectiveness of Word Wall strategy to enhance students’ vocabulary mastery of text at the eighth grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Cilacap in academic year 2016/2017. The method to construct this study was experimental study. The population of this study was 200 eighth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Cilacap. This study employed 60 students as samples in two classes namely Class B as an experimental class and Class F as a control class, in which both classes consists of 30 students. The treatment was given to experimental class otherwise control class wasn’t given any special treatment. Students were active during the application of the Word Wall for experimental class. The result showed that the mean score of pre-test and post-test of experimental class was 58.44 and 80.67, while control class result was only 59 and 65.11. The deviation score of experimental class was 22.22 and for control class was 6.17. While t-test result was 4.29 and t-table for d.f 58 at the level of significance α = 2.001, it briefly inferred that the t-test result was higher than t-table (4.29>2.001). In conclusion, the result evidently proved that the Word Wall strategy was effective to enhance students’ vocabulary of text.
