Abstract

This research aimed at improving students’ vocabulary mastery in eight grade (8A) students at SMPN 3 Kalibagor through word chain game. This research was a classroom action research (CAR). The reseacher used Kemmis and Mc Taggart design. There were 2 cycles in this research and in each cycle, reseacher did 2 actions. The subject of this reseach was the students of class VIII A in SMPN 3 Kalibagor academic year 2014/2015. There were 30 students in it, 16 male and 14 female. To collect the data, the reseacher used a test, questionnare, and observation as the technique of collecting data of this research. This research applied word chain game in every cycle. The Passing Grade (KKM) in this research was 75. The average result of the students’ score in cylce I was 64.4 and the average result of the students’ score in cycle II was 76.1. The result of the study showed that the used of words chain game could improve the students’ vocabulary mastery in the English teaching learning process. The students were happier following the teaching learning process. They actively interacted each other and followed the teaching learning process enthusiastically.
