Abstract

This study investigated how teachers manage classes as well as what
teachers perceive about classroom management at eighth grade of junior high
schools in Purwokerto in the academic year 2016/2017 in order to know the
implementation of classroom management . To meet the purposes of this
research, a descriptive survey was conducted. Semi-structured interview with
the teachers was done to get the data of teachers‟ perceptions. To get the data
of teachers‟ management in classroom teaching on-participant observation in
classrooms was conducted as clarifications of interview results. By analyzing
the results of observation and interview, it was concluded that teachers tried to
manage misbehaved students. However, teachers‟ orientation of classroom
management focused only on how handle a class and deliver material.
Although teachers know that classroom management is important in achieving
the goal of learning, teachers did not include some aspects of classroom
management in the teaching learning process. Teachers missed some of
language functions including narrating, eliciting, and correcting. Besides,
teachers had lack of preparation of teaching Also, teachers missed one role, as
planner (teaching refer to lesson plan). As involver, teachers tried to involve
students by pointing and by invite students to ask questions. However,
teachers showed the role as a resource only once during teaching learning
process.
