Drugs containing Dextromethorphan HBr become one of the most
frequently abused drugs. Drugs containing Dextromethorphan HBr can be
purchased freely and many people assume that Dextromethorphan HBr abused is
relatively safer than narcotics or psychotropics which had restricted regulation.
This study aimed to assess the level of use, knowledge, attitude of senior high
school/vocational students toward cough drugs containing Dextromethorphan HBr
in Banyumas. This research was observational with cross sectional type and
proportional accidental sampling technique. Data were collected using
questionnaires. The result showed that as many as 17.5% of respondents had used
drugs containing Dextromethorphan HBr with improper purpose, such as to get
drowsiness effect, sedative, prevent cough, and experimental behavior. In
addition, there were improper drug used like over dose used, and drug
consumption with other substances such as alcohol, soft drinks and energy drinks.
Based on information from respondents, they got drugs from pharmacy, stall,
hospital and from friends. The level of knowledge of respondents is 68% so it can
be concluded that the level of knowledge of respondents about cough medicine
containing Dextromethorphan HBr including high category. The average score of
respondents attitude is 77% so it can be concluded that respondents attitude about
cough medicine containing Dextromethorphan HBr included in good category
