Abstract

Chemical analysis of liquid waste practicum has a heavy metal content
that has not filled wastewater quality standart such as the content of copper (Cu)
and iron (Fe). Reduce the amount of heavy metal content in liquid waste
practicum chemical analysis is done by coagulation using chitosan. Chitosan is
potentialy high cationic polyelectrolite natural biopolimer for metal absorption,
which is easily biodegraded and non toxic. So chitosan can be used as coagulant
in processing liquid waste practicum chemical analysis. This study aims to
determine the most optimal dose of chotosan and pH, in absorption of metal
content of Cu, Fe and decrease of TDS, and also to know the variable that
influence in liquid waste treatment of practicum Chemical Analysis. The method
used was coagulation using chitosan coagulant with chitosan dose variation 0
ppm, 250 ppm, 500 ppm, 750 ppm, and 1000 ppm, and setting pH 7, 8, 9, and 10.
The most optimal Adsorption of Cu content was done at pH 7 and chitosan dosa
of 750 ppm with Cu content of 2,5204 ppm. The most efficient absorption of Fe
metal at pH 9, chitosan dose 250 ppm with Fe content of 8,423 ppm. Total
Disolved Solid (TDS) content after coagulation with the most effective chitosan
17.140 mg/l at pH 7 with chitosan dose 250 ppm. The final value of the adsorption
of Cu and Fe metals that already exists under the specified wastewater quality
standards, but for the TDS results obtained are still above the established
wastewater quality standards. The pH and dose variables both affect the
coagulation process.
