Abstract
A research has been conducted to determine the effect of Polyethylene Glycol
Diacrylate (PEGDA) on the properties of crosslinked hydrogel film. The
composition of Polyethylene Glycol Diacrylate (PEGDA)/Polyethylene Oxide
(PEO) concentration was 0 to 30% (by weight). The hydrogel films were produce
by electron beam irradiation process at 300 kGy dose to obtaining crosslinked.
The measured characteristics included gel fraction, swelling ratio, vapor
transmission rate, and mechanical properties. The chemical structure was
analysed using Spektrofotometer Fourier Transform-Infra Red (FT-IR). The
research result showed that the gel fraction value increased with increasing
PEGDA content. Meanwhile, the swelling ratio value decreased with addition
concentration PEGDA. The hydrogels strength tended to increase from 2.22 to
5.66 N/m2 and its elastic modulus, having the highest value of 193.65 MPa. Due
to the high PEGDA content of hydrogel. The elongation of hydrogel decreased
with increase PEGDA content with the lowest value of 530.6267%. The rate of
vapor transmission reached the highest value of 3.02 g / m2h with 10% PEGDA
content. The result showed that the addition of PEGDA content can improve the
tensile strength, elastic modulus, and vapor transmission demonstrate the
possibility of mechanically robust and be expected can be used for wound
dressing applications.
